Camphor launches recycling fundraiser!

Posted by: Admin on Sun, Mar 26, 2006

Donations of your old cell phones and used ink jet cartridges will benefit library and literacy programs!

The Library Committee, Communications Committee and Camphor Council for Community Development, Inc. (CCCD) have joined together to launch a cell phone and ink jet cartridge recycling campaign to raise much-needed funds for computers, internet wiring/access and software for the church library and literacy programs. The goal is $5,000.

They have found the only program in the country, EcoPhones, that will pay community groups and faith-based organizations for every cell phone and every ink jet cartridge collected --up to $300 per cell phone and up to $5 per cartridge -- regardless of whether or not the phones/cartridges work and regardless of whether or not the phone(s)/cartridge(s) are on their price list.  The recycling program will not only help us open the Church Library Computer Center but will also help protect the air and water from potentially harmful cellular and ink jet cartridge waste.

So, if you still have your first cell phone(s) - the ones that weighed 2 pounds and barely got a signal-- and you've managed to move on to something more compact and versatile, but your old phone(s) is/are still functional, then please consider donating it/them to Camphor. Or, if you've thought about getting a new cell phone and didn't know what to do with the old one, this is the perfect solution.  The more working cell phones we collect, the more funding we'll have for the computers. Remember, EcoPhones will pay for EVERY phone -- working and non-working phones!  They, in turn, refurbish the phones for low cost purchase by senior citizens and others in North and South America.

We'll be collecting phones and cartridges until we reach goal, so bring your old cell phones and used cartridges to Sunday worship services, or drop them off in the church office during the week, or mail them to us at the church:  5620 Wyalusing Ave., Phila., PA 19131-4831. Be sure to include your contact information if you would like to receive a thank-you letter for tax purposes.  There will be monthly awards and a final monetary prize to the youth (age 12 to 21) and the adult (age 21+) who collect the most phones/cartridges during the campaign.  (Hint: some great sources are cell phone stores, employers and businesses!)

God bless you for your support!
